Just how PHAT is Sydney

A lot of people I have been talking to here have been asking me what I think of Sydney. Similarly, a lot of people back home have been asking me how Sydney compares to other cities in the States.

Well, I would say it this way. It seems that a great many cities within the States have a lot going for them. It would also seem that some of these cities excel in areas where Sydney is deficient.

But the delta in Sydney’s deficiency to a city in the states its superior is never very large.

Case in point.

Sydney is humid
Mountain view is rarely humid

Advantage: Mountain View

But is Sydney so humid that it is on par with Houston? No, of course not. So it’s a bit off, but not that bad, so still say 90%+ good.

Or try Cleanliness

Vienna is immaculate
Sydney is really freaking clean

Advantage: Vienna, but not by very much at all

So when you go in a blow by blow listing of the merits of Sydney, where it is not the best or competitive in the top three, it is within a 10% of the top three.

It is my supposition that in aggregate where you compare the criteria associated with a ‘good place’ Sydney comes in as best all around.

Therefore I would say it’s Miss Best-all-around.

It also has the European sensibility that I found so very attractive 1997-1999 minus the Europe that I found so lackuster in 2001. I’m going to try to get out to the beaches this weekend….that’s one of the areas where Sydney is supposed to be at the top sans competition.
