BayAreans: Are we snobs?
Some researchers seem to think so.
Just because we live in the gravitational well of the greatest city in the world, does that mean we have to be snobs about it?.
Maybe it’s not SF which is snobby, it’s simply snobby people that are attracted there.
I would also like to modify the POV expressed in the article, the folks in Daly City and the South Bay are salt of the earth kinda good folk.
Jobs and Subtleties

I am an engineer. Most people are scientifically and mathematically illiterate. Consequently, most people cannot fathom how much pleasure and delight I derive from my work. Of course I am also lucky to have a great job with great coworkers. But the pleasure of analyzing, say, the overall efficiency of a combined heat and power facility is hard to describe.

Touch Isolation
http://www.filmsforaction.org/articles/touch-isolation-how-homophobia-has-robbed-all-men-of-touch/
The article contends that young men are literally dying of touch isolation. After childhoods full of touch and tenderness, they go through a desert decade (actually, longer) before they can reliably expect to have it in their lives again in a regular, consensual, constructive way.
And what happens in that gap? Homophobia, stress, isolation.
No wonder so many boys are turning to drugs, online games, and are desperate for teen sex: they’re dying of loneliness and shame for want of something all mammals desire at their core.
Personality of Programmers
A meta-analysis on 19 independent samples (total N = 1695) highlighted that programming aptitude was associated with three personality traits, conscientiousness, openness, and introversion. Moreover, the three traits explained incremental variance components beyond general mental abilities. In contrast to stereotypical beliefs, programming aptitudes were not associated with socially undesirable traits such as disagreeableness or neuroticism.

Teens Aren't Partying
My generation lost interest in socializing in person they don’t have physical get-togethers, they just text together, and they can just stay at home.
