Bike Ride to Staten Island

Blog

This last Sunday was a beautiful early Fall day here in Manhattan. We took our bikes down to the recently opened Midtown West / St. George ferry line down at pier 79. As it just so happened, another person waiting for the boat was from SI and gave us the tip on “Snug Harbor” as a wonderful park to check out. We decided to go with his plan.

It was a short two miles or so to the ferry, then a pleasant 40 minute ride out to SI via a stop in Battery Park City. After that it was about a 20 minute cycle around the northern edge of the island to the park.

Afterward, we made a non-trivial ascent to the center of the island where we visited [The Burrito Bar]. Speaking as a Texan and Californian, I have to admit, the Tex-Mex was pretty good. Out on the terrace, a local Dead tribute quintet played and get the vibes mellow. Chips and salsa, cerveza y fajitas. We noticed we were running a bit close to the time for our return ferry, but the great news is…we were on top of a hill. We kicked up the kick-stands and basically rode one long street to the water front and then just a few twists to the pier.

Here are some pictures from the day.

Arriving on the island we biked around a bit
