The KNACK Sticker

Blog

In packing up for a move, you often find little trinkets that bring a smile to your face. Since roughly 1996, I’ve been hiding, forgetting, and re-finding this sticker from the KNACK radio station in Nacogdoches, Texas. It has hidden between pages of books, in drawers, and under shirts from Austin to storage, to California, back to Texas, back to California, and on the long haul from California to New York City.

I’m sure I picked this up at The Drag’s Sound Exchange on the corner of Guadalupe and Speedway in the mid-90’s.

Judging by the back label, it must have been printed around the time of The Cowboy Junkies’ first Geffen release, Lay it Down, whose single “Common Disaster” was getting some heavy airplay on Austin’s KGSR.

This sticker always takes me back to mid-90’s Austin: Les Amis cafĂ©, Sound Exchange, and Captain Quackenbush’s.
