Covid Vaccine Shot 1

Blog

I’m glad to see that the vaccine roll-out has finally touched our lives here. Owing to my age and asthmatic status, I was able to get in right before the general 30+ free-for-all and got my first “Fauci Ouchie” today.

My appointment was at the Duane Reade on the northern border of Times Square (W. 50th and Broadway), where it’s still so dead and still. Here are pictures from about 0800 on a Thursday with the Winter Garden to the north. The theatre that refuses to stop performing “Chicago” is but a block South.

Nevertheless, I can feel the change brewing. NYC is ready for her close-up now, Dr. Fauci. While our recent new lease is favorable and has several free months, it’s not that favorable for us tenants for very long. The landlords know time is on their side.

Anyway, like NYC when it’s doing well, the visit was brief and efficient. I was there when the store opened, I went up, I handed over my pre-filled forms and was out 20 minutes later.

Afterward, I even went to my office on E. 59th and Lexington Ave for the first time in over a year. The company has been amazing in terms of bringing on additional cleaners, installing thermal scanners, and even performing weekly tests in the porte cochere.

On arrival I used our company’s mobile app to signal my request to enter (I had opened a request to work from the building the day previous). Upon sending that request I got a notification to appear at the testing tent. I walked in and they had cute laminate floor and a pipeline of leading to a dozen or so cubicles for testing. I walked through, had a swab taken and my badge was activated. I walked through the remainder of the tunnel and headed into the glorious beauty of 731 Lexington Ave.

There were signs about mask discipline, washing hands, and today’s catered-in menu (since so many of the food spots are still closed, we’re getting it brought in).

I headed up to my old space and found it boxed in with plexiglass “walls.” My view is still amazing.

Bloomberg is a top-quality operation all around. I feel lucky to be under the stewardship of senior managers who know how to manage during this trying time. There’s even a travel stipend that we can use to head home. It wasn’t busy so I took transit back home to Lauren and Byron. It was a nice day out. I could handle going to an office one day a year.
