The reason Harry Lime is so odious in “The Third Man” is because he spread lies and false hope during a health crisis. Hawking ineffective penicillin, he put lives at risk. Selling false narratives, puts lives at risk. One of the two men knows about pandemics. One is out of his depth and bereft the humility to admit it.
