I’m back in Mountain View ( more on that later ) and at the Tapioca Express on Villa and they’re playing “Captain of Her Heart”.
I loved those smooth-singing Englishmen of yesterdecades:
- Spandau Ballet ( “True” )
- When In Rome ( “The Promise “)
- Orchestral Manœuvers in the Dark ( “If You Leave” )
- Double ( “Captain of Her Heart” )
I think that idea is just about due for recycling into the current time. If Interpol mark the return of Joy Division, I should think my request is about 2 years from being granted.
Update
The keen-eyed Social Bobcat spotted my misattribution like a ground-squirrel for supper in his native mountainous terrain. OMD sang “If you Leave”.

i don’t know the second song but the other two are great tunes, i don’t care how much of an 80s geek that makes me

@bobcat:
“I’m sorry but I’m just looking for the right words to say / I know they don’t sound the way I plan them to be…”

I don’t know these names … and after the 60’s psychadellia thing, I think I’d rather wait until you lend me you iTunes one more time (along with earbuds and everything).
I know one thing though: nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beats the black’s vocal anguish of an enslaved soul — I am listening at Sam Cooke RIGHT NOW.
cheers mate,

if i might add in another ‘english with saxophones’ point:
courtesy of a coworker of mine, i have some Pet Shop Boys on my computer now. “To Speak Is A Sin” has all of the necessary song prerequisites
it’s weird, i never said to myself ‘hey i really think i need to check out the Pet Shop Boys catalogue’ but now that i have it to listen to, it’s a bit more well-produced and deep than i would have thought. “West End Girls” was not the beginning and end of their good work, so it would seem.

She Wants Revenge also does a very good Joy Division impression/ripoff.
