I used to have this theory that the natural state of humanity was sleep, and the function of waking time was to produce the environment necessary for us to sleep safely and contentedly.  Perhaps the function of most of our time is to wrestle away the things that might keep us from enjoying the ministrations of our loved ones.&lt;/p&gt;
