As anyone whose known me for the last decade knows that I love The Cardigans: since 1995, always will. I think they’re such consumately talented artists and I love each and every one of their records: including the difficult ones that aren’t so easy to love.

Entertainment Weekly seems to have found occasion to remind the world of The Cardigans as their song “Lovefool” was referenced on a recent episode of “The Office”. Here’s a link to Entertainment Weekly’s refresher on The Cardigans.

and so God created the episode of The Office where the song “Lovefool” is amateurishly sung and said, “It is Good.”

grace and i have been watching the british version of the office on DVD and while it is funny i think its weakest link from a viewer perspective is actually that of its most well-acted roles: the manager, David Brent. Ricky Gervais does David’s pathetic/desperate/self-absorbed demeanor cringe-inducingly well but that ultimately leaves the viewer (at least me and grace) unsympathetic to his better qualities.

steve carrell’s Michael Scott, on the other hand, says offensive things more out of bumblingness than of reactive malice, and so is more supportable in the long run.

I agree, Bobcat. In addition, I am struck by how much less effective the male protagonist is in the American version than the British version. I don’t watch regularly enough to catch his name — the one played by the fellow who played Arthur Dent in Hitchhiker’s Guide. Seems to me the American one is more photogenic but doesn’t have the authenticity.
