It appears that the American electorate has decided that enough is enough from the looney bin of George W. Bush and is interested in seeing if he can learn to quack like a duck as quickly as he undermined habeas corpus, let his Pentagon tank the war in Iraq, and let ideology override pragmatism.

I read some of his commentary from before last night from the Washington Post:

President Bush said terrorists will win if Democrats win and impose their policies on Iraq, as he and Vice President Cheney escalated their rhetoric Monday in an effort to turn out Republican voters in next week’s midterm elections.

You’ve gotta be joking, right?

That’s what’s at stake in this election. The Democrat goal is to get out of Iraq. The Republican goal is to win in Iraq.

Really? As far as I can tell your method for implementing your “goal” sucks and you’ve done nothing to change the direction ( Rumsfeld ) or the playbook ( “stay the course” ). As my dad taught me, you’ve got one hell of a case of “Ready, Fire, “How’d the bullet get over there”, aim” on your hands.

The Senate is still undetermined, but I think that this should be a much better direction for this country than the rubber-stamping partisan crap we’ve put up with for the last two years.

Steven is going back to Austin

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Today I spoke with my boss and she, very graciously, consented to allow me to work remotely from our Austin, Texas office. Actually in a bit of a sign of the times moment, working remotely means working 2 time zones closer to her. Isn’t that the internet age?

I love Austin and I can’t wait to get back. LL Cool J can go back to Cali, but my ears long for KGSR, my mouth for Tex-Mex and Mexican Martinis, and my eyes for SXSW.

I’m going back to where I’m from and I’m taking my lady with me.

I’ll miss the South Bay and its mild climate, its dispassionate precipitation. I’ll not miss the ennui, the cubicle mentality, the dearth of community, and the cost of living.

In any case, myself and Elle will be packing up and headed direction east in early-mid June.

See ya’ll Californians at WWDC and SXSW.

Site revamp finished

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Said Dedman on August 3, 2004:

HARMS REVAMPS SITE - CITY FLEES: Steven G. Harms, the doctrinaire San Francisco hipster, has completely revamped the design of his blog. It now conforms a bit more to the traditional blog layout. Be certain to read his requiem for Francis Crick, although it appears that there is some difficulty in linking directly to the post. As I post this, the Crick post is the third entry on the site, so scroll down to find it.

While I have yet to see the denizens of Sunnyvale running like mad lemmings from the Fry’s in an insane fit of fear to plunge themselves in the murky mire of the Bay, I do hope that a more uniform, readable, and, dare I say, snazzy effect has been reached.

I’m exceedingly happy with the WordPress blog software. It’s really been a lot of fun to be able to look at the PHP code underneath and revamp things as I saw fit. I don’t know why I never did that with MovableType, could it be the case that WordPress is simply more hacker-friendly?

Is James Dedman ill?

No update since his bitter Valentine’s day entry.

Great news from CNN!

Wednesday, January 5th, 2005

I was right about to take off for the gym when i saw this latest update on BoingBoing. It appears CNN won’t be renewing the contract for bowtie-wearing hack “journalist” / conservative provocateur Tucker Carlson. The BB text was:

CNN “Crossfire” host Carlson to stop hurting America More Jon Stewart/Crossfire fallout? CNN has announced that it will not renew Tucker Carlson’s contract, and the days of “Crossfire” may be numbered. Said CNN chief Jonathan Klein: “I guess I come down more firmly in the Jon Stewart camp.

Here’s the source article.

Man, it seems that God, in exchange for keeping Bush in office, seems to be offering concilitary gestures by getting that hack off TV and ending the Ashlee effect.

New spelling lesson

Monday, January 3rd, 2005

The Social Bobcat has asked his lady for her fair hand (she has agreed).

This evening I dub her (based on the Word spellcheck engine) upon their matrimonial date: The Graceful Bobcat.

Ceremony to occur sometime TBD but you’ll see updates here eventually - I’m going to help make sure that everything goes off without a hitch.

Update: Er, rather with a hitch.
